Real Name | Provides a space for you to specify your name. This information will appear in the From box of the mail and news messages you send. |

Organization | Provides a space for you to specify the name of your company, department, or organization that you belong to. This information will appear in the headers of the news messages you send. |

Account Name | Displays the name of the selected account. To change the name, type a new one in the Account Name box. |

Ignore Previously Downloaded Mail | Specifies whether to prevent the download of mail that is stored on your mail server, but that has already been downloaded to your Inbox before. |
Delete Received Mail From Server | Specifies whether to delete a message from your e-mail server once it has been downloaded to your Inbox. You should do this if your Internet service provider charges extra once you have a certain amount of mail on their server, or if your network administrator has asked you to do so to lower the burden on their e-mail server. |
Use APOP Password Authentication | Provides a more secure way of transferring your POP password over the Internet. The typical user will not need to use this option. If you do need to use this option, your Internet service provider or network administrator will provide you with the information you need. |
Override Default POP Port | Specifies whether to override the POP port number. The typical user will not need to use this option. If you do need to use this option, your Internet service provider or network administrator will provide you with the information you need. To use the override, select the Override Default POP Post check box and type a number in the box. |
Use Full E-mail Name For POP Server Login | Specifies using your full e-mail name when logging onto the mail server. The typical user will not need to use this option. If you do need to use this option, your Internet service provider or network administrator will provide you with the information you need. |
Additional Headers | Provides a space for you to type additional header information. The typical user will not need to use this option. To add additional header information, type it in the box. |
Usenet News Settings | |
NNTP Host | Provides a space for you to specify the name of your news server. This information is provided by your Internet service provider or network administrator. |
This Server Requires Authentication | Specifies that your news server requires a user name and password. Your provider will let you know if your news server requires this information. If you have a news server that requires authentication, select this check box. Then, type your user name in the User Name box and your password in the Password box. As you type, you will see bullets instead of the letters and numbers you are typing, to help keep your password private. |
Advanced | |
Override Default NNTP Port | Specifies whether to override the NNTP port number. The typical user will not need to use this option. If you do need to use this option, your Internet service provider or network administrator will provide you with the information you need. To use the override, select the Override Default NNTP Post check box and type a number in the box. |
Additional Headers | Provides a space for you to type additional header information. The typical user will not need to use this option. To add additional header information, type it in the box. |

Maximum Line Length 76 Characters | Specifies the number of characters that should appear on one line in the messages you send. To change the number of characters, type a number in the box. |
Encode Enclosures Using | Specifies which method of encoding to use when sending files through e-mail. To change the encoding, choose an new one from the menu. |
Signature | |
Automatically Add Signature To Messages | Adds the text in the Signature box automatically to the messages you send. |
Signature | Provides a space for you to type the text to include in a message when you choose Add Signature from the Message menu. You might want to include your company or department name, phone or fax number, or a quote you like. |
Quoting | |
Quote Messages When Forwarding | Adds the character in the Quoting Character(s) box to the original text in messages you forward. |
Quoting Character(s) | Specifies the character to add to the original text in messages you reply to. To change the quote character, type a new one in the Quoting Character(s) box. |
Startup Options | |
Require POP Password | Specifies that the POP password for the current user must be typed when Internet Mail and News is first started. |
Download Mail | Specifies that mail should be automatically downloaded from the mail server each time Internet Mail and News is started. |
Quit Options | |
Empty The "Deleted Messages" Folder | Deletes the contents of the Deleted Messages folder when you choose Quit from the File menu. |
Compact Folders | Deletes any unneeded space and information in the database that stores your messages. To specify a size that the database has to exceed before it is compacted, choose a size from the menu. |
Mail and News Settings | |
When Sending, Save A Copy In "Sent Mail" Folder | Saves a copy of the mail messages you send in the Sent Mail folder. |
Send Messages Immediately | Sends a message to the Internet immediately, instead of storing it in the Outbox. |
Use File Helpers To View Received Enclosures | Specifies that a helper application should be used to open and display an enclosure received in a mail message, instead of saving it. Use the File Helper panel to set up the applications you want to use. For example, if you have this option selected and you receive a message with an HTML document enclosed, when you select this document from the Enclosure button, Internet Mail and News will start the program you specified as the helper for HTML documents and display the file. |
Check For Mail Every 9 Minutes | Specifies a timed interval for automatically sending and receiving e-mail. You might want to do this if your provider disconnects you after a certain period of non-activity and you want to stop this automatic disconnection. Be sure that you know what type of payment plan you have. You may not want to do this if you pay on a per-use basis instead of a flat monthly fee. To change the number of minutes, type a number in the box. |
Download 500 Newsgroup Message Subjects At A Time | Specifies how many news messages to download at one time. To change this number, type a number in the box. |

New Mail | Specifies the sound to play when new mail is downloaded from your e-mail server to your Inbox. To change the sound, choose a sound from the menu. |
No Mail | Specifies the sound to play when no new mail is found on your e-mail server. To change the sound, choose a sound from the menu. |
Mail Sent | Specifies the sound to play when mail has been successfully sent to the Internet. To change the sound, choose a sound from the menu. |
Mail Error | Specifies the sound to play when there is a problem while trying to send or receive mail. To change the sound, choose a sound from the menu. |

Make Unread Messages Bold | Specifies that unread messages should be displayed using bold text. |
Mark Messages Using Colors | Specifies that read and unread message should be displayed using colors. To change the colors, click the Read and Unread boxes, and then choose a color from the Color Picker. |
Mark Read Messages With | Specifies that read messages should be marked using a character. To change the character, type a new one in the box. |
Show Message Headers In Message Windows | Displays the information contained in headers in the mail and news message windows. |

List Font | Specifies the font used to display text in lists and tables. To change the font or font size, choose one from the menu. |

Printer Font | Specifies the font used when printing messages. To change the font or font size, choose one from the menu. |
Character Set | Specifies the character set to use for all outgoing messages and for incoming messages that contain no character-set information. To change the character set, choose a new one from the menu. If you want to ignore the character-set information contained in messages and always use the default one you have chosen, select the Override Even When Specified In The Message Header check box. |
Protocol Helpers Settings | |
Protocol/Application | Lists the protocol associated with an application. You can use the Add, Change, or Delete buttons to change the settings. |
Add | Opens the Protocol Helper Editor dialog box, in which you can add a new protocol. For more information, see the Protocol Helper Editor dialog box. |
Change | Opens the Protocol Helper Editor dialog box, in which you can change the application associated with a protocol. For more information, see the Protocol Helper Editor dialog box. |
Delete | Removes a selected protocol. To remove a protocol, select it from the list, and then click Delete. |

For example, suppose you assign Fetch as your FTP (File Transfer Protocol) helper and have selected the Use Current Application If Possible check box. When you click an FTP link in Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer will be used to download the file, not Fetch. |
